I found out that you take yourself with you. My problems followed me. My insecurity didn’t change. I thought that by moving here my life would be totally transformed. It takes time to get used to a multicultural society.
I remember going to Piha with my partner’s brother. He showed me a dead Possum. I felt sorry for the Possum’s. They are an introduced pest here. Traps are set by the DOC workers.
I remember going camping in Kerikeri, we put out tent too close to the falls and we woke up soaked. Those were interesting days. I woke up laughing, I must have woken my partner up.
I was pregnant and went for a swim with the dolphins, we saw a huge whale. I got into the wetsuit. I didn’t like not being able to put my feet on the bottom of the sea. I had a panic attack and swam back to the boat.
There was a little boy there who I think was scared too. We arrived back at the boat at the same time. My survival instincts kicked in and I managed to get there first but I was carrying my baby. I felt guilty, I was so anxious I couldn’t help the young boy. I don’t know how old he was.
We saw a massive Tuna being pulled in by the boats. New Zealand was a culture shock.
I remember the day after we got here my partner and I went for a walk up to one tree hill. That tree inspired U2 One Tree Hill track.
The volcanos intrigued me. The landscape is so different and the area around the tree is beautiful. I miss living in my partner’s house. Everything beautiful is accessible here. The tree lined streets, and beautiful flowers outside of my partner’s father’s house.
